Nando’s lined up for spot in West End

-

A NEW fast food restaurant is set to open in A-listed West End property.

Nando’s will be opening up just off Byres Road at the Botanic Garage, which is currently undergoing renovation.

The restaurants will be situated in the former Arnold Clark showroom on Vinicombe Street.

Permission for the development was granted in 2016 but bosses have lodged a further application for outside seating by the redeveloped frontage.

A proposal to use the pavement for external seating was submitted for 24 Vinicombe Street by Nando’s Chickenland Ltd, outlining: “The use of the unit as a Class 3 restaurant has already been established by the earlier permissions.

“This application seeks to create an attractive alfresco dining area immediately outside the Nando’s unit.”

As previously reported by the Evening Times, the historic West End garage, which has been at the centre of a planning row for years.

The A-listed Art Deco garage in Vinicombe Street, which is owned by motoring tycoon Arnold Clark, is the oldest surviving motor garage in Glasgow and possibly the UK.

Around a decade ago, local residents launched the Save the Botanic Gardens campaign when it was feared the garage would be partially destroyed.

In October 2007, Arnold Clark announced it was withdrawing the application to demolish the garage, saying public opposition had played a large part in the decision.
