Dimitris delight at semi-final stunner

- By ADAM THOMAS

DUMBARTON attacking midfielder Dimitris Froxylias hailed his winner against TNS as one of the best goals he’s ever scored, as he helped the Sons progress into the Irn-Bru Cup final with a 2-1 victory in Oswestry on Saturday.

The Welsh champions took the lead on 50 minutes after Dean Ebbe capitalised on a mistake by visiting goalkeeper Scott Gallacher.

Danny Handling scored his first goal for Stevie Aitken’s side since joining in the summer from Hibs to level the scores.

With five minutes to go, Froxylias rifled a free-kick from 25 yards into the top corner, giving the TNS goalkeeper no chance.

And the Greek-born Cypriot was just happy to help the Sons into their first national cup final in over 121 years.

He said: “It was one of my best goals, but the most important thing was that we won and that we’re in the cup final and I’m very glad that I helped my team.

“It’s very important for the club and for the fans, many fans made the trip and I saw they were very happy and I was as well.”

The 24-year-old has been impressive for Sons since joining the club in August last year.

He’s netted five times for the part-timers, as well as his goal against Dunfermline being voted as the SPFL Goal of the Month in November.

And the former AEK Athens player is hoping his family back home in Greece get a chance to see his goal.

He added: “Hopefully my family will watch my goal on the highlights.

“I like Scotland and Scottish football, I love the people at Dumbarton and my team-mates.

“You have to have a good relationship with the team and we need to continue like that because we have many games left in the league and we have to fight.”

Dumbarton’s attentions quickly turn to their Championship game tomorrow against Morton, looking to close the gap with eighth-place Falkirk.
