Tom still targets top-four for Ton

- By ADAM THOMAS

MORTON’S Thomas O’Ware hopes his injury-hit side can continue their play-off push after the defender scored late on to secure a 1-0 victory against Dumbarton on Tuesday.

The Ton had six first-team players ruled out for their game at the YOUR Radio Stadium, and lost another just minutes into the second half when Luca Gasparotto was forced off with a rib injury.

Chances were few and far between on Tuesday night, but the 24-yearold headed home Michael Tidser’s corner with 16 minutes to go to give the visitors the three points and moved Ton four points clear of Dunfermline and Queen of the South.

And O’Ware reckons other teams in the division have had nowhere near as many injury problems as the Greenock side have.

He said: “When you look at the other teams like St Mirren, the front six have been the same all year.

“We’ve had changes in the back, changes in the midfield and injuries up front.

“Hopefully now we can stick together and see it through until the end of the season and secure a play-off spot.”

It was a landmark goal as well for O’Ware, taking his tally in Morton colours to 25 since joining the club back in 2011, 11 of them coming last season.

He’s scored three so far this season and while he’s valuing points above goals, there was no chance O’Ware was letting team-mate Gary Oliver take his goal away from him.

He added: “Gary’s been winding me up saying he touched it in, but there’s no chance he’s getting it.

“The result is the most important thing.

“The gaffer said if you can pick up three or four one-nils in games like that this season, it makes a huge difference to your points tally.”
