- By HOLLY LENNON

MURDER detectives investigating the shooting of a football boss in Cambuslang have said they believe it was a targeted attempt on his life.

Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl was found with multiple gunshot wounds following the shooting on Wednesday night.

The blood-soaked 48-year-old staggered from Borgie Crescent to Cadoc Street, where he stumbled into a local pub and told regulars he had been shot.

Shocked customers in the Kirkhill Bar looked on in horror as others tried to stem blood pouring from the his wounds.

Early reports suggested he was shot in the face and stomach while making his way home.

Emergency services, including armed police, raced to the scene following reports of the attack around 8.50pm.

McColl was taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable.

An attempted murder probe has since been launched with officers treating attack as a targeted hit.

A burnt out car which was discovered by police at Turnlaw Road, near East Greenlees Road, Cambuslang, is also being linked to the shooting.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Tennant from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team (West) told the Evening Times: “I would like to reassure the public that we believe this to be a targeted attack on the victim and extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the motive and full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We cannot confirm the exact cause of the victim’s injuries at this time, however we have several reports of loud bangs in the area and one line of enquiry is that a firearm was involved.

“This type of reckless violence has no place in our communities and the fact that it happened in a busy residential area will undoubtedly cause concern.

“Additional patrols will be in the area to provide reassurance and the officers will be happy to assist so feel free to approach them.

“Support from members of the public is going to be absolutely vital to this investigation and I cannot stress enough how important it is that anyone who may have information about what happened comes forward.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in Borgie Crescent or Cadoc Street last night and saw or heard anything at all suspicious.

“I would also ask anyone who was in Greenlees Road between 8.30pm and 9pm who may have noticed a car parked or anyone making off from the scene to get in touch.

He continued: “I am also appealing for any motorists with dashcams who were the area around the time of the incident last night and may have captured any footage of the incident to
