Muir bags bronze in ‘world-class’ 3000m

-

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger’s position came under further scrutiny last night after Manchester City comfortably beat the north London side 3-0 for the second time in five days to heap more pressure on the Frenchman.

Pep Guardiola’s side claimed the Carabao Cup on Sunday at Wembley with a comprehensive 3-0 win and despite Arsene Wenger’s call in the Gunners’ matchday programme to “play with more freedom” in last night’s repeat match, they were three goals down in the Premier League at the Emirates by the 33rd minute.

Bernardo Silva curled City in front in the 15th minute from the edge of the box after tremendous play by Leroy LAURA Muir claimed 3000m bronze for Great Britain at the Athletics World Indoor Championships in Birmingham last night.

The 24-year-old finished third behind winner Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia and Holland’s Sifan Hassan.

Muir, who clocked a season’s best of 8 min 45.78 sec, won double European indoor gold in Belgrade last year, but could not repeat that success against a high-class field in the first session of the World Indoors yesterday, with Dibaba claiming a third straight title.

Muir, speaking to the crowd after the race, said: “I’m pretty tired. Thank you to the crowd. I was so hurting on the last lap and I just had to dig deep.

“The crowd were great and good on you guys for coming out in this weather as well. To get a European medal was brilliant. But that was a world-class 3000m, so to get a third in that field, I am very happy.”
