AMAN is ‘serious’ in hospital after a suspected shooting in the north-east of Glasgow. He was said to have been gunned down in a street thought to be busy with families.

Crime Reporter A MAJOR police investigation has been launched after a young man was injured in a suspected shooting in a residential street filled with families in broad daylight.

The 26-year-old was targeted in the attack on Dykemuir Street in the North East of the city. The man was named locally as William Barclay.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as ‘serious’ but stable. His injuries are unknown.

The incident happened on a street which runs alongside a children’s playpark. Balornock Primary and Wellfield Nursery School are also nearby, and it is understood the area would have been busy with families at the time.

Police have yet to comment on the daylight attack. The street, which runs between Springburn and Balornock, was this morning cordoned off. Residents had to speak to cops as they entered and left the area.

A lane in Dykemuir Street also remains cordoned off with officers standing at either side.

The size of the cordon indicates that forensic teams will have a big task on their hands as they begin their investigation.

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 4.30pm on Thursday, police officers were called to a report of a man having been injured in Dykemuir Street, Glasgow.

“A 26 year-old man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he is currently being treated with serious injuries.

“Officers are at the scene and inquiries are ongoing. If anyone has any information about this incident then contact police.”
