City eaterie in running for top award

-

A GLASGOW restaurant is competing against four top London venues to be named the best in the UK.

The Spanish Butcher has earned a coveted top five nomination in the GQ Food & Drink awards.

The restaurant, in Miller Street, is owned by husband and wife team James and Louise Rusk, who also run Hutcheson’s on Ingram Street and the Butchershop and Grill in the West End. It specialises in Galican beef and seafood, combining Spanish and Mediterranean-inspired flavours.

The Spanish Butcher is competing against Westerns Laundry, Core by Clare Smyth, Native and The Barbary, all in London.

Most of the award categories have been dominated by London venues, making the Glasgow nomination all the more impressive. Judges include Richard Corrigan, who has cooked for the Queen twice and is the chef patron of Corrigan Collection, which includes Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill, Dickie’s Bar and Corrigan’s Mayfair.

It comes on the back of two other nominations for the succesful Glasgow business.

The Spanish Butcher has been nominated for Most Stylish Restaurant at this year’s Scottish Style Awards.

Meanwhile, the 158 Club Lounge at Hutcheson’s is in the running for Most Stylish Bar.

The fourth annual GQ Food & Drink Awards will be presented by Veuve Clicquot at a glittering ceremony in London with the winners announced in June.
