Morelos signs on dotted line until 2021

ALFREDO MORELOS has given Rangers a major pre-Old Firm boost by committing his future to Ibrox until 2021.

The striker has become an integral part of the Light Blues attack following his move from HJK Helsinki in the summer.

Rangers turned down a series of multi-million pound bids for Morelos from Chinese Super League side Beijing Renhe during the January transfer window.

And he has now pen to paper on fresh terms just hours before Graeme Murty’s side host Celtic in a crucial Premiership clash.

Morelos said: “I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Rangers.

“I know how important the club is in Scotland, how many titles that it has won and how much history that it has. I am really happy here and I am working hard for the team.

“I love it when the fans show their support to me and sing to me. I’m really grateful for their support and want to repay them with performances on the pitch.”

Morelos has netted 17 times for Rangers so far this season as he has settled into life at Ibrox in stunning style.

He is set to lead the line for Murty’s side this weekend as the Gers look to move within three points of Celtic in the Premiership standings.

And the Ibrox boss is confident there is plenty more to come from the 21-year-old as he looks to continue his fine scoring form in the remainder of the campaign.

Murty said: “We are delighted that Alfredo has committed his future to the club today.

“He is a very talented player and one that we know we can work with to make even better.”
