- BY STACEY MULLEN

POLICE are probing the death of a woman found near the Forth and Clyde Canal.

Fifty-six-year-old Alison McAllister was discovered earlier this week and officers say her death is unexplained. A post mortem examination is to be carried out.

Detectives said it was “imperative” that they find out how she died.

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the death of a Summerston woman who was found at the Forth and Clyde Canal.

Cops say they are treating the death of Alison McAllister, 56, as unexplained. A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the exact circumstances of the death.

Her body was discovered on Tuesday at around 1.30pm after police received a call.

She was found at the Forth and Clyde Canal, near to Cleveden Road, Maryhill.

No formal identification has been carried out as yet, however, police believe it to be Alison McAllister. Her relatives have been informed.

She is described as white, around 5ft with a slim build and short reddish/brown hair.

She was wearing a darkcoloured parka jacket with orange lining and a grey fur trim around the hood, grey V-neck top with a red and white tartan scarf, black leggings and black knee-length boots. She was also carrying an ASDA bag for life.

Alison was last seen at around 5.20pm on Monday, March 19 in the Summerston area, near the ASDA supermarket.

From there, she got into her blue Vauxhall Mokka car and drove off.

Officers continue to conduct enquiries to try and find out the circumstances of her death and are reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to piece together Alison’s movements from when she was last seen on Monday afternoon.

Her car was later found in Collina Street at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, March 20.

Detective Inspector Craig McPhail said: “It’s imperative we find out how Alison died and the circumstances which led to her death. Her family is understandably very upset and we want to provide them with answers. I am appealing to members of the public who were in the Summerston, Maryhill and Canal Path areas to think back and consider if they saw Alison or her car. Was she alone?”
