Pupil’s school mascot design brought to life
THE new schools mascot has had his first official engagement – visiting his creator at Clyde Primary School.
As told in the Evening Times, council arm’s-length company Cordia launched a competition for a youngster to design the face of school meals.
And young winner Ruairidh McKenzie rose to the challenge with his design: Broccoli Bill.
Julia McCreadie, Cordia’s Head of Encore and Facilities Management, said: “Ruairidh has shown off his creative skills by producing a design which embodies both healthy eating and Scottish heritage.”
“Bill will be making a number of visits to Fuel Zones across Glasgow, so be sure to keep an eye out for our big friendly green giant.”
Primary seven pupil Ruairidh won a competition to see his striking design turned i nto a life-sized mascot, as well as being used across Fuel Zone marketing materials.
After considering more than a thousand entries, Ruairidh’s design of a stalky broccoli dressed in traditional Scottish attire was chosen by the judging panel to be the face of Fuel Zones across Glasgow.
Councillor Chris Cunningham, City Convener for Education, Skills and Early Years said: “This has been a really fun competition for the primary pupils – but an important learning opportunity too.
“We all know the benefits and link with healthy eating and increased concentration so a competition that illustrates this to our children is a brilliant idea.
“Let’s hope Broccoli Bill becomes a wellknown face across the city – I think schools will love him.”
