EX-CELT INSISTS BHOYS ARE MILES AHEAD
Simon says the Parkhead outfit are miles ahead
FORMER Celtic striker Simon Donnelly believes there isn’t a player at Ibrox who would get into Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI.
The teams go head-tohead on Sunday at Hampden in the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final as Celtic look to take a further step towards an historic back-to-back Treble.
Rodgers has not lost to the Ibrox side in the nine games he has played
against Rangers and Donnelly believes Celtic’s superiority is clear.
“You could argue the right-back [James] Tavernier has been decent this season, but I wouldn’t swap anybody in Celtic’s team,” said the former Scotland internationalist.
“They are winners at the moment.
“Until somebody knocks them off their perch I wouldn’t swap any of them.”
Donnelly spent six seasons at Celtic and was part of Wim Jansen’s 1998 title winning side who stopped Rangers winning 10-in-a-row.
Graeme Murty’s side lost to 10-man Celtic as Rodgers’ side twice came from behind last month at Ibrox and the former striker can appreciate the demoralising effect the repeated exposure of losing causes.
“Rangers were an [Alfredo] Morelos kick away from getting a point.
“Celtic managed the game like champions and did really well.
“Back in the 1990s when Rangers had a hold over us it didn’t take a lot to dent confidence.”
