Pals honour brave Eilidh with Ibiza charity bash

- BY MAXINE MCARTHUR

ONE year on from losing their best friend to a rare and aggressive form of cancer, a group of Hamilton pals have raised a staggering £7,000 in her memory.

On March 14, 2017, the group were devastated at the loss of their beloved pal Eilidh McHugh, who was j ust months away from beginning her dream job as a pharmacist.

But they’re more determined than ever to make sure her 22-year-old’s name, and all the good she planned to accomplish, lives on.

The pals, who met as while studying at the town’s Holy Cross High School, have banded together to raise cash for Eilidh’s Beatson Fund, which will go towards the cancer charity who provided outstanding care for Eilidh in her last days.

And their event, an Ibiza themed disco in SWG3 last month has taken that total to a £7,130, which coupled with other fundraising bashes hosted by Eilidh’s doting family have raised an incredible £130,906 altogether.

“This would’ve been right up her street. She loved Ibiza, and dancing and she was obviously very glamorous”, said Megan McIvor on behalf of the group of friends.

“The fund was set up by her sister and they’ve been doing loads of things like a ladies day and the ball so our group thought we wanted to contribute to the fund by doing something she would’ve enjoyed.”

Taking over SWG3 in Glasgow city centre, the group hosted an Ibiza disco night to rival the island’s own favourite hotspot Ushuaia.

DJs Harri and Domenic, Iona Hamilton, Ross Hamilton and Dave Grant got the 300-strong crowd going.

Wh i le make-up pros ONYX provided facial glitter as the crowd danced under bright lights spelling out the star of the night’s name.

Megan added: “We wanted to do something she would have loved and we’re really chuffed with it.

“It couldn’t have gone any better, it was such a good night.

“It’s good for us to keep her memory alive and gives us all a chance to work together and do something she would’ve loved. “But we’re just so glad we were able to help other people who are battling cancer and are so grateful to everyone who came along and donated, it really is a great cause.”

The group don’t have any plans for their next fundraising venture as yet but they’re sure it won’t be long before they decide to do something else to celebrate the incredible life of their beloved Eilidh.
