City’s going wild about Harry and Meghan on royal wedding day...
GLASGOW has been overcome with royal fever as the city gears up to celebrate the biggest event of the year.
Venues across Scotland’s biggest city have thrown open their doors on what is set to be one of the warmest days of the year so far.
Sloans, just off Buchanan Street, looks set to host the city’s biggest bash and could see up to 1,000 people hit the venue, according to an online event.
The popular bar and restaurant is screening the wedding live on every one of its screens over three areas and, with temperatures ready to hit highs of 19C, the venue’s courtyard will undoubtedly quickly become full from early on.
Events manager Rebecca Docherty described how the team is “super excited” and said: “We’re getting everything ready just now and the decorations are being put up across all three floors.
“We’ll have royal cocktails on offer, including a gin-ger prince and Meghan sparkle.”
Even though a high number of people have responded to the event, Rebecca said there will be “plenty of space.”
She added: “Our advice would be for people to arrive early. The coverage starts at 10am and will wind down at around 7pm.
“We’ll have a barbecue outside too from around 11am to 5pm. It’ll be a great day.”
The kids at Healthy Steps Organic Nursery in Hillington staged their own royal wedding yesterday with a party where they enjoyed plenty of food and treats.
Dozens of other venues across Glasgow are hosting special events, including live screenings and special, set menus at The Corinthian Club, The Citizen, Boclair House, 29 Private Members Club, with Vodka Wodka and The Polo Lounge just a couple of the bars getting into the party mood.
Glasgow City Council said it has not received any street party applications this year – unchanged since Kate and William married in 2011.
Outside of the city, however, The Halfway & District Bowling Club in Cambuslang is throwing a street party for residents with an expected turnout of up to 100 people.
Crowds are expected to turn out to the family-friendly event where there will be a barbecue, bouncy castle, a quiz, games, karaoke and a royal raffle.
Young royal fans have already been celebrating ahead of the wedding, with St Anthony’s Primary School in Johnstone hosting a family-friendly fête with plenty of food and drinks and games including hook-a-bride and hook-a-groom hoopla and knock-‘em-off-their-feet coconut shy.
And Glenboig Primary School pupils were staging a mock wedding this morning.
