Pop Idol star Gareth wows his fans to get bingo hall rocking

- BY JACK THOMSON

POP Idol star Gareth Gates performed to hundreds of adoring fans in a Clydebank bingo hall.

The singer-songwriter and West End theatre star had Bankies swooning as he serenaded them with a combination of his greatest hits – and a surprise or two.

More than 300 people turned up at Kilbowie Retail Park’s Club 3000 to see the Say It Isn’t So singer, who was described as being a “really nice guy”.

Gareth entertained fans with hits Anyone of Us, Spirit In The Sky, Unchained Melody and even an interpretation of Bryan Adams’ Summer of 69.

The 33-year-old was then followed by Scottish band Elite, who kept people dancing until the end of the night.

David Pearson, the general manager at Club 3000, said: “It was a really good night. I met him at the front door, he’s a really nice guy.

“He performed on the stage and customers were getting right up to him.

“He wasn’t standing off at all, he was really good with them.

“He did the meet and greet afterwards and stayed until everyone got to meet him and got some selfies. He was great in that way.

“We’ve had a lot of positivity on Facebook from it.”

Ally Houston posted on social media: “I had a great night.

“Gareth and Elite were fab. Looking forward to the next one.”

Gill Hardie, from Dalmuir, attended the gig and she said: “He [Gareth Gates] was brilliant.

“He looked happy to stand and get pictures.

“The atmosphere was good, and everyone got up to dance and sing along. He didn’t disappoint at all.”
