Police called to Waverley

-

POLICE were called out to the famous Waverley paddle steamer after reports of fighting and drunk behaviour from two groups of young people.

Officers met the vessel as it docked at the Science Centre following a day trip to Rothesay. One passenger said they turned a family trip into a “booze cruise”.

POLICE were called to a family boat trip after it descended into chaos on one of the hottest days of the year.

Parents and children who had bought tickets for the Waverley Cruise from Glasgow were shocked when groups of young people turned it into a ‘booze cruise’ on Saturday.

One concerned parent said the alcoholfuelled passengers got out of hand after drinking both on the boat and at pubs in Rothesay, where it had docked.

Taking to social media, the man described the groups as ‘swearing, shouting, pestering and taunting innocent people’ on the boat.

He added: “Someone must know who these cretins are, hope you are proud of ruining it for everyone. Why do neds do this stuff?”

This weekend marked the first sailing of 2018.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed that officers were called to the Pacific Quay, where the boat was terminating, at around 8.40pm after a fight broke out on board.

No arrests were made as a result of the incident.

Waverley Excursions have been contacted for comment.
