GOLDSON CLOSES IN ON £3M GERS DEAL

-

RANGERS will look to complete a move for defender Connor Goldson next week after agreeing a £3million fee with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Goldson is poised to become the fifth signing of the summer for boss Steven Gerrard after Rangers clinched a deal to bring Liverpool kid Ovie Ejaria to Ibrox on loan.

SportTimes revealed last night that the 20-year-old had agreed a move until the end of the season and will be reunited with his former Anfield youth coach in Glasgow.

Ejaria spent time on

loan at Sunderland in the second half of last season and will now join the Light Blues to gain more first team experience under Gerrard’s guidance.

The Englishman is set to be followed north of the border by Goldson as Gerrard closes in on one of his key targets after Rangers met Brighton’s valuation and had their latest bid accepted yesterday.

The move won’t be completed until next week and the stopper, who was ruled out of action for several months after undergoing heart surgery last year, has still to pass a medical at Ibrox.

SportTimes revealed last week that Rangers would return to the negotiating table after seeing two offers for Goldson rejected by the Seagulls.

Details between the clubs have now been ironed out and Rangers will hold talks with the 25-year-old as he closes in on a move north of the border.

Goldson was unable to dislodge the impressive pairing of Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk last term as Chris Hughton’s side retained their Premier League status and finished 16th in the top flight.

The arrival of Nigerian international Leon Balogun from Mainz has increased the competition for places at the Amex Stadium and Goldson will now head for the exit door in search of first team football.

The capture of the former Shrewsbury Town kid is a major boost to Gerrard as work continues to overhaul the Gers squad before the Europa League qualifiers.

Rangers have already completed deals for Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and forward Jamie Murphy.
