Our Bev finds superstar Ed

-

ED SHEERAN played three nights at Hampden Park but nobody knew he played for real on his final night right outside the Evening Times HQ.

I was on Ed watch for all the time he was here and even chatted with some of the Les Hoey Dreammaker kids who met him before his show inside Hampden.

Ed remained pretty elusive in between his gigs, choosing to stay out of the city and having a police convoy escort him onto the motorway. He stayed in a country mansion away from prying eyes.

But, I can reveal Ed decided to let his hair down on his final night with singer Anne-Marie.

The two stars decided it would be best to travel into the centre of town for some play time and somehow managed to remain undetected as they made their way up Sauchiehall Street and on to Renfield Street.

They and their team took over The Flying Duck for an after-show party and spent the best part of the night in there with their entourage, emerging in the wee small hours.

One of Ed’s biggest fans Cian Kilday, 7, from Maryhill, had been out looking for him with his dad Michael and couldn’t believe it when he stumbled across him on his way home from the gig.

Michael said: “My dad loved Ed Sheeran but died suddenly on my stag do, the day before Father’s Day. To mark his passing the first dance at my wedding was Perfect. It was incredible we bumped into Ed on our way home. It must have been my dad looking down on us.”

Spencer’s ‘stag’ do

MADE In Chelsea Star Spencer Matthews joked he was celebrating his stag do as he popped into Dr Darren McKeown’s newly-revamped clinic on Tuesday night. Matthews was with his fiancee Vogue Williams at the bash and its said the two will marry tomorrow at his family’s residence, Glen Affric Estate in the Highlands. Spencer, who is Pippa Middleton’s brother-in-law, told me he was feeling very relaxed in a printed cotton shirt at the bash and felt more Ibiza style than the suited and booted guests.

As Vogue spun some turns behind the wheels of steel, Spencer revealed she’s going to start teaching him how to DJ.

Jason’s kilt saved

JASON DONOVAN wore a kilt to celebrate his 50th birthday in Glasgow at a charity bash – and now the hire company claims it will never wash it.

The ex-Neighbours star sang his hits including Especially For You at the Tartan and Tiara ball at Doubletree Hilton.

He was given a kilt to wear by Heart Radio DJ Paul Harper, who had the delight of telling him to wear undies because it was hired.

Paul told me: “We got the kilt back of Mackenzie Menswear and now it has said it won’t be washing it because it was worn by Jason.

“I think there is even talk about putting it up on their wall.”

Circus set to wow

ZIPPOS Circus is back in the city and I caught up with the ringmaster Norman Barrett and his posse of performers at Queen’s Park on Tuesday.

Norman, at 83, is the longestserving ringmaster and is marking the 250th anniversary of Philip Astley, father of the modern circus.

The show this year includes lots of vintage style acts with modern twists and, having seen a sneak preview, it will keep you on the edge of your seats.

Last year I took Brian Matthews, from Glow, and he ended up having knives thrown at him. I also ended up in the Sphere of Death with motorbikes whizzing round my head.

This year I met a range of topless musclemen and the charming comic acrobat Paolos Dos Santos.

Small talk

TONY CHRISTIE was in affable form following his gig in Glasgow’s Saint Luke’s.

He said he loved playing intimate gigs before his big tour. He talked particularly fondly about gigs in Arbroath, and Orkney, where he said a whole village came out to see him.
