Fans raise £4000 for memorial bench tribute to tragic singer
FANS have rushed to raise more than £4000 to erect a bench in honour of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison in Glasgow.
A JustGiving page was started by music lover Ade Cartwright in a bid to raise £1000.
However, in just 48 hours, it smashed its £1500 target, bringing in a total of £4335 and has been declared a “lovely idea” by the band.
In a tweet, they said: “What a lovely idea.
“A group of folks have got together to raise money to put a bench somewhere i n Glasgow i n memory of Scott.
“Any extra money will go to a charity or other projects in his name.”
It is not yet decided which of the city’s parks the bench will be placed in.
Any additional funds raised by the campaign will go towards honouring Scott’s legacy by donating to charities he supported.
Ade said: “He inspired and helped so many people not only through his lyrics but also through his genuine connection with his fans. Everyone could relate to him and he had time for everyone. This project is for all those out there who have been touched by Scott’s lyrics and music, his humour and humanity and have been devastated by his passing.
“Our goal is to raise £1500 to purchase a memorial bench including a memorial plaque for Scott in one of Glasgow’s beautiful parks – free of entry and easy to get to for local and visiting fans.
“The bench will be a place to remember Scott, to put the headphones on and listen to his music and take a deep breath of fresh air, a place to sit down and have a good catch up with friends and fellow fans, a place to celebrate Scott’s life and what he means to all of us.
“Let’s carry on making tiny changes to the world.”
The 36-year-old rocker died on May 10 after a battle with mental health issues.
