HOLT TO FLEETWOOD AS EXODUS BEGINS

Midfielder joins Fleetwood with more exits expected

-

RANGERS midfielder Jason Holt could be reunited with former Ibrox team-mates Joey Barton and Clint Hill at Fleetwood Town. SportTimes understands the new Cod Army management team are keen to clinch a deal for the 25-year-old ahead of their first campaign i n

the dugout. Barton was appointed boss at Highbury earlier this month and Holt could now become the third former Light Blue to sign up with the League One outfit.

SportTimes revealed last week that Holt a n d midfield compatriot Andy Halliday would not be part of Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox plans this term.

Halliday joined up with the Gers squad that flew out to Spain yesterday morning but Holt was not involved in the travelling group as he edges closer to the exit door after three years with the club.

Boss Gerrard has added six players to his squad already this summer and there will be several departures in the coming weeks as the 38-year-old prepares for the Europa League qualifiers and new Premiership campaign.

Defender Fabio Cardoso and striker Eduardo Herrera will also be allowed to leave Ibrox after failing to impress during their first season with the Gers.

Meanwhile, Billy Dodds reckons Rangers veteran Bruno Alves is on his last legs as he praised Gerrard for making a new defensive spine his top priority.

Alves, 36, is currently part of Portugal’s World Cup squad in Russia and ex-Ger Dodds has nothing but respect for his pedigree in the game, including stints with Porto, Zenit St Petersburg and Fenerbahce.

However, he is adamant the Euro 2016 winner has seen better days, revealing that Ross County – where Dodds worked alongside boss Jim McIntyre until their dismissals last September – tried to target him.

He said: “He has been a fantastic player but, as a pundit looking at it, you can see the legs are starting to go.

“He wanted his swan-song at the World Cup and he’s got that.”
