GERRARD EXPECTS THREE-WAY FIGHT

STEVEN GERRARD insists the No 1 jersey at Rangers is very much up for grabs as three keepers battle it out for the Ibrox gloves.

Gerrard had four shot-stoppers – Allan McGregor, Wes Foderingha­m, Jak Alnwick and Robby McCrorie – at the Light Blues’ pre-season training base in Spain.

Youngster McCrorie could head back out on loan this term after an impressive spell in League Two with Berwick Rangers last season.

But that will leave a hat-trick of experience­d keepers with their sights on a starting spot for Gerrard’s first campaign as a boss.

Foderingha­m was first choice for most of last

season but the return of McGregor (below) in the summer has given the Englishman fresh competitio­n ahead of the big kick-off.

And Gerrard knows there will be at least one unhappy keeper in his ranks as he considers who to pitch into the Europa League qualifier with FK Shkupi next month.

Gerrard said: “I think right now they all see themselves as No 1s and they have still got time to impress and stake their claim.

“But, I am not stupid and I know the three goalkeeper­s are desperate for that position. Certainly, one of them is not going to be happy in the coming weeks but that is life, there is nothing I can do.
