- Thousands head to Glasgow Green for a sizzling line-up of musical talent as the sun keep shining down on city BY HOLLY LENNON

THE finishing touches are being added as Glasgow Green prepares to host this year’s TRNSMT festival.

More than 140,000 music fans will descend on the city spot as Glasgow basks in a heatwave.

OVER 140,000 music fans are expected to descend on Glasgow Green this weekend for the second annual TRNSMT festival.

With the event now running over two weekends, more stars than ever will be taking to the outdoor stage.

Organiser Geoff Ellis hosted a tour of the site ahead of doors opening this afternoon and urged ticket-holders to start drinking water as soon as possible to prepare for the expected heatwave.

The DF Concerts boss took the decision to extend the event to two weekends to better suit the number of acts available for a Glasgow festival slot.

The stage will be staying in place into Tuesday July 10 as Grammy-award winning Bruno Mars brings his tour to the city, supported by Dua Lipa.

Across both weekends, fans can look forward to headline sets from Welsh rockers Stereophonics, true rock ‘n’ roll star Liam Gallagher, a UK festival exclusive from Arctic Monkeys, the legendary Queen + Adam Lambert and closing act The Killers.

Acts i ncluding Gerry Cinnamon, Tom Grennan and Declan McKenna will be making their main stage debut after impressive performances on the King Tut’s stage last year.

Featuring on the bill on the second stage will be Sigrid, Nina Nesbitt, Fatherson, Kyle Falconer and The Sherlocks.

Geoff Ellis, CEO of DF Concerts said the good weather is the ‘cherry on top’ of event.

Speaking ahead of the launch, he said: “TRNSMT is right around the corner and we are so excited for it all to start.

“With this amazing summer weather we have right now, it’s important that fans keep hydrated on the days leading up to and during TRNSMT and put plenty of sun cream on throughout the festival so they can enjoy this weekend.

“To ensure you see as much music as possible, there’s two entrances to the festival so we’re encouraging fans to use the East entrance where possible as well as the West.

“Look after yourselves and each other!”

“The medical facilities are geared up to deal with this, I dare say there’ll be a few tubs of after-sun brought in.

“But it’s not a nanny state, people have to prepare themselves and at times like this you have to cover up, wear sun protection.”

Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones spoke about his excitement for the upcoming festival saying: “TRNSMT lineup looks like a great weekend for all!

“Happy to be headlining

‘‘ People have to prepare themselves and at times like this you have to cover up, wear sun protection

the Friday and getting another chance to play in front of the beautiful, always up for it, Scottish crowds!”

And he’s not the only one – indie rocker Miles Kane spoke of how he is raring to go ahead of TRNSMT.

Speaking ahead of his Sunday show, Miles said: “It’s been too long since I’ve been on stage – I cannot wait to get up and perform a high energy set with a couple of new bangers thrown in! Bring it on!”

New to the festival this year will be the addition of Platform On Tour who will be providing freshly made street food and drinks to festival-goers.

The street food vendors, who usually operate out of the Arches, will be setting up in Glasgow Green for the weekend.

Also new to the site will be a McFlurry stand, Carlsberg Export VIP bar and Red Bull Bar.

Last minute changes to the schedule, has meant that Castlemilk singer-songwriter Gerry Cinnamon will be playing at 4.55pm on Saturday, after rapper J-Hus pulled out.

A spokeswoman for TRNSMT said: “Unfortunately J-Hus is no longer able to perform at TRNSMT this weekend. “We have re-jigged the schedule –Gerry Cinnamon will now play in J-Hus’ slot and The LaFontaines have joined the bill, opening the stage on Saturday June 30.

“We’d urge fans to download the app to see the changes to the schedule and turn on their push notifications for updates to make sure they don’t miss their favourite acts.”

Last year’s festival is said to have brought in around £10 million benefit to the local economy.

Bars, clubs and restaurants across the city reported having one of the busiest weekends of the year due to over 100,000 revellers coming into the city.
