Mackintosh Hill House interiors take up city residence for show
AN exhibition in Glasgow will showcase the interiors of a Charles Rennie Mackintosh masterpiece, the Hill House, for the first time.
The Hill House in Helensburgh was built between 1902 and 1904 for the publisher Walter Blackie, with Mackintosh continuing to create pieces for it in the years after.
Objects on display at the exhibition include suites of furniture from the famous White Bedroom and Drawing Room, as well as individual pieces.
This unique opportunity to see these pieces in Glasgow has arisen because the National Trust for Scotland is undertaking a conservation project at Hill House.
The House’s owners will place a mesh “box” over the building to allow it to dry out in order to tackle water ingress
During the work, some key items of the collection will be removed.
Councillor David MacDonald, depute leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “This fascinating exhibition offers visitors to the Lighthouse a first – the chance to see the interiors of his Helensburgh masterpiece, the Hill House, in a new setting.
“All of the key rooms and features of the Hill House will be represented, showing the evolution of some of his finest design work.”
The exhibition runs at the Lighthouse August 4-September 23.
