Glasgow Times

Day five: Travel and transport udates

-

THE Evening Times is bringing readers a daily breakdown of what’s on in and around the city during the course of the European Championships, along with the routes to avoid for those commuting to and from Glasgow.

Local bus services on Tollcross Road and Shettleston Road are likely to be busier than usual before 9am and from 12pm onwards as a result of the swimming events at Tollcross Swimming Centre.

Looking forward to Wednesday, the Time Trial events will take place as Europe’s elite road cyclists race through the streets of Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire.

With more than 300 of the continent’s best cyclists set to take to Scotland’’ s roads, closures will be in place around junction 15 westbound causing delays and congestion. The public is being urged to avoid the area and work from home if they can.

Parking restrictions will be in place from 4pm along the length of both the Men’s and Women’s Time Trial events course and will remain in place until 11.59pm on Wednesday.

The M8 motorway is also going to be extremely busy, with the Time Trial events taking place across the city. Commuters should make sure they plan ahead and rethink their usual travel.

Public transport or active travel will be the best mode of travel.
