Booth buoyed by win ahead of Euro clash

-

GLASGOW City head coach Scott Booth said he was happy with the three points and no further injury worries after his side beat Celtic 2- 0 at Petershill Park.

It was an ideal confidence boost for City, who now play Belgian outfit Anderlecht in their opening Women’s Champions League qualfiying game at Oriam tomorrow.

An own goal from young Celtic striker Kathleen McGovern midway through the first half and an Abbi Grant solo effort three minutes later sealed the win.

The visitors were without four suspended players.

“I thought we completely controlled the game,” Booth said. “Celtic did well in phases but we didn’t feel threatened.

“We knew what we had to do – get the first couple of goals – and after that it was possible to make substitutions and keep the legs fresh for the Champions League qualifiers.”

Celtic goalkeeper Emily Mutch, playing in her first competitive game since signing from Aberdeen, and the woodwork, twice, kept the scoreline down and allowed Hibernian to edge ahead on goal difference, as well as goals scored, at the top of SWPL1.

The Edinburgh side beat Stirling University 4- 1 with Jamie Lee Napier, Lisa Robertson, Abi Harrison and Lauren Davidson getting the goals.

It was the latter’s first for the club since joining from Rangers.

Forfar Farmington moved to within two points of Celtic in third place after beating Rangers 1- 0. Spartans stay bottom following a 0- 0 draw at Hamilton Accies, who are one point above them.
