Want willing to learn from mentor Martin
SHAUN Want is taking leadership tips from Hamilton boss Martin Canning as he looks to become “a voice on the park”.
The 21- year- old ( below) has been at the Lanarkshire club since he was 10 years old and became a first- team regular in the second half of last term.
Canning was also a central defender at Accies before he moved into the hotseat, and Want is gratefully tapping into his knowledge and experience.
Ahead of the trip to Motherwell tomorrow, he said: “I need to have a bit of responsibility. I am defender, I need to organise and command.
“I need to bring that into my game and be more of a leader.
“Obviously, everyone knows Martin played the same position as me and that was one of the things he was really good at so I learn from him every day.
“It comes from experience and the more games you play you pick it up.”
Accies suffered a 4- 1 defeat to Hearts in their opening league fixture and Want is looking to respond quickly when they take on their Lanarkshire rivals.
He said: “We have been saying all week, ‘ What better way to bounce back than to play your rivals?’
“It is going to be a tough game, we know what we are in for, but we are all looking forward to it”.
Meanwhile, midfielder Darren Lyon has left the club following the mutual termination of his contract. The 23- year- old made 69 appearances.
Accies also confirmed international clearance has been granted from the Danish FA to sign Congolese midfielder Delphin Tshiembe from AC Horsens.
