Josh vows to boss it in Championship

-

JOSH WINDASS is determined to prove h i m s el f i n t h e Championship after putting pen- to- paper on a deal with Wigan.

The midfielder made the trip to the DW Stadium to agree a three- year contract after the Light Blues accepted a bid of around £ 2 million.

Windass said: “It’s been a strange day; I woke up this morning to get to Ibrox to get on the coach to play in the game tonight and then next minute I get a phone call and I’m here to do a medical.

“It wasn’t an easy decision to make to be honest because I’ve been playing a lot at Rangers, but I spoke to the manager this morning when I got the call and I felt the best thing was to come here to try and prove myself and get this team up the league.

“I ’ v e p l a y e d against the manager’s teams a few times when I was at Accrington and I know a couple of the backroom staff here, so it was a no- brainer.

“I know a couple of the lads too having played against them so it’s a good squad and I’m looking forward to it.”

Windass was a key player for Rangers last season and was handed a start by Steven Gerrard for the Premiership opener with Aberdeen on Sunday.

He scored 18 goals in 41 appearances for the Light Blues but wasn’t guaranteed a starting spot after a host of arrivals at Ibrox this summer.

Now he is focusing on his future with the Latics as he looks to make his debut for Paul Cook’s side against Aston Villa this weekend.

Windass said: “It’s a good first game to come into and hopefully we can get a good result and start my career off here strong.

“I’ll let people judge me for themselves but I’m quite quick and like to score goals.”
