The city’s full of cheer as the festive season nears

-

IT MAY still be summer but people have welcomed news that Christmas markets are returning to the city.

Helen Sillars, pictured with husband Douglas, said: “It’s going to bring a lot of revenue to the city, especially if there are tourists about.

“I went with my son to the market at St Enoch Square and I thought it was really good.”

European Championships volunteer, Alice MacIntyreBeon, can’t wait to sample the atmosphere at the markets.

She said: “Glasgow is a great place to hold them because folk get really into the spirit.

“It’s good the markets will be back because the event has become a big thing in the city. I go because I love the atmosphere – and the smell.”

Joe Milligan is also looking forward to the market but is already planning for a long journey home.

He said: “I go every year and I take my nine grandchildren who all go with me. It’s a big family day out.

“The only bad thing is that it’s hard for me to get home because the roads are sometimes shut off.”

Jack Howlkins revealed that he will be a first- time visitor to the event after recently moving to Scotland from south of the border.

He added: “I’ve been to the ones in Manchester and Birmingham and they bring a real buzz to the area.

“The markets draw people into the town. Everyone gets into the Christmas spirit, has a drink and it gives a general boost to the town.”
