Aberdeen ‘happy’ with Ferguson fee

-

ABERDEEN last night declared themselves “satisfied” with the fee they will have to pay Hamilton Accies for Lewis Ferguson.

The 18-year-old midfielder moved from Lanarkshire to the North East in the summer but the clubs could not agree what is known as a training compensation fee for youngster (below).

Hamilton were last night considering their options which would suggest they were unhappy with the SPFL tribunal which took place at Hampden yesterday.

Aberdeen originally offered £100,000 for Ferguson, a fee Hamilton believed to be derisory. They considered £1.25 million to be a more accurate figure.

Hamilton would have accepted £900,000 but it is thought the tribunal did not come close to meeting that valuation.

There is no right of appeal but Les Gray, Accies’ vice-chairman who was at the hearing, said last week that his club would “go all the way” if they felt justice had not been done.

The matter went to an SPFL Compensation Tribunal with Aberdeen Football Operations Manager Steven Gunn representing the Dons.

The compensation figure the Pittodrie men will have to pay is confidential and the SPFL said they would not be commenting.

A Dons statement read: “Following on from the Compensation Tribunal’s award decision this afternoon the club are satisfied with the outcome having received a fair hearing.

“It is not our intention to make any further comment in relation to this matter.”

It was understood that the SPFL Compensation Tribunal would be advised to ignore everything Ferguson had done since joining Aberdeen.
