Hodson signs for Saints... with Kenny in the crosshairs

-

ST Mirren boss Alan Stubbs expressed his delight after the Paisley side sealed a season-long loan deal for Rangers fullback Lee Hodson.

The Northern Ireland internationalist has found himself surplus to requirements under new Gers boss Steven Gerrard.

The versatile former Kilmarnock and MK Dons defender can operate on both flanks but is now below Light Blues skipper James Tavernier, Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic in the Ibrox pecking order.

But Stubbs has handed Hodson the chance to relaunch his career with the Buddies. Stubbs said: “Lee brings the qualities we are after. He brings experience, a winning mentality and his own idividual qualities.

“There’s no issues with him in terms of fitness so all being well he will go straight into the squad for Saturday.”

Hodson was signed by Mark Warburton in 2016 and has gone on to make 27 appearances, scoring once.

Saints are also interested in talking to Kenny Miller after the 38-yearold’s surprise Livingston exit. It was confirmed yesterday morning that the player-boss had parted company with the Lions after refusing to give up his on-field duties.

Miller had only been in charge for seven weeks after replacing David Hopkin as boss – but the top-flight new boys have decided Miller’s joint role combining playing and managerial duties “was not working”.

Now he could be set to resume his playing career with Saints, who are keen to hold discussions.
