League all that matters says Thistle hitman
ANDRÉA MbuyiMutombo insists Partick Thistle can use their Celtic performance as a springboard to league success this season.
The Jags threatened a Betfred Cup shock at the weekend when they hauled themselves back level with the Scottish champions before succumbing to a 3-1 defeat.
The loss came after back-to-back wins over Falkirk and Stranraer and Mbuyi-Mutombo is convinced the relegated Firhill outfit can make their hard work pay off with a Championship push this term.
Thistle added former Kilmarnock striker Souleymane Coulibaly to their ranks earlier this week to boost their firepower and MbuyiMutombo says his teammates are fully focused on the job in store.
Ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Dundee United, the former Inverness striker said: “We are out of the cup but the priority is the league. A win would have been nice but we are looking at the league this season.
“We have lost [to Celtic] but we had two very good wins before and we want to take this to Dundee and get another.
“We have a very important game, we will recover well and work as hard as we possibly can in training. This is what we do – we recover then work hard every week, we keep working and working and the results will show.”
The 28-year-old made it two goals from two games with his secondhalf strike in the loss to Celtic and has vowed to keeping scoring.
He told ptfc.co.uk: “I am happy with the start I have made for the club. I thank God for that and this is not the finished me, it is just the start.”
