We’re not all students

-

NOT got a problem with students or anyone else having the odd late-night party (Residents told to live and let live in noisy neighbour row, Evening Times, August 23).

But not everyone is a student, not everyone does a straight 9-5 shift, so there needs to be a bit of consideration by all neighbours. Sometimes it’s just down to poor soundproofing.

I’ve had my fair share of issues in the past with students having parties at 3am on weekdays. I politely reminded them most people in the block had jobs to attend to and required sleep, which did nothing.

In the end, I had to record the noise, get statements from all the neighbours and eventually they were evicted. Sadly, what this has done is make landlords reluctant to allow students into the block. I can understand part of the argument with the amount of student accommodation in Glasgow, but not all students are noisy, party animals.

I don’t know what steps this guy took, but getting the anti-social team involved would have been a good step if politey asking them to keep the noise down didn’t work. The asbo team could get statements from other neighbours to confirm his story and he could record the noise.

Most flats I have lived in have substandard soundproofing. Nothing worse than having someone above you with poor wooden flooring. Stephen Munro, posted online
