Ashe calls on his weak Warriors to become mighty oaks

-

AS one of the men Dave Rennie has identified as having a key role to play in allowing Glasgow Warriors to impose themselves on opponents, Adam Ashe yesterday admitted last weekend’s visit to Northampton Saints was a tough experience.

Having come off the bench during Friday’s 41-15 thrashing at Franklin’s Gardens, the 25-yearold is hoping it will also prove valuable, however, ahead of the first meaningful match of the new season when they face Connacht in this weekend’s PRO14 opener.

“I think we were probably beaten up physically and in some ways it’s going to be a good lesson for us to learn at this point in the season,” he acknowledged.

“We’re not as big a team as some of these bigger teams, so in order for us to get it right we need to get the detail right. That’s something that was really emphasised at the weekend.

“We definitely believe within the group we have that we’ve got enough there to beat these teams, but if we don’t get the detail right we don’t have the size and that wasn’t there at the weekend.”

“It’s certainly something moving forward that we’re really looking at and wanting to work on but with the group we’ve got there we’ve got the players who can do that.

“We’ve spoken about it this week and as a group we believe that, so that’s certainly going to be the aim going forward.”

“You can’t win a game of rugby nowadays without being physical, so first and foremost that has to be in place.”
