‘GREZDA CAN BE FAN FAVOURITE FOR GERS’

- BY CHRIS JACK

STEVEN GERRARD has backed winger Eros Grezda to establish himself as a firm favourite with Rangers fans if he completes his £2million move to Ibrox.

The Albanian is poised to become the 13th signing of the summer for boss Gerrard and finalise a switch from Osijek in the next 48 hours.

Gerrard has already dipped into the Croatian market twice this term to sign defenders Nikola Katic and Borna Barisic from Slaven Belupo and Osijek respectively.

Now Grezda, who did not feature against the Gers in the Europa League second qualifying round, is in line to follow his countrymen to Glasgow.

That will leave Gerrard only seeking to bring

another defender on board before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.

And the Ibrox boss is confident Grezda will prove to be a key player for his side once he puts pen to paper with the Light Blues.

Gerrard said: “There is nothing to report on Joe Worrall at the moment as he is still at Nottingham Forest player.

“Grezda is currently having a medical and I don’t want to say too much until it’s over the line.

“But he is an excellent player and the fans will love him because he can contribute in the final third.

“He’s really quick, very direct and he comes in with international experience.

“According to Borna and Katic he was by a mile Osijek’s best player last season.

“He is a very dangerous player and while you never want to see anyone injured we are thankful he wasn’t available to play against us.

“All going well, hopefully he’ll be a big player for us moving forward.”

Gerrard has significantly overhauled his squad in recent weeks following his appointment as manager but there are still deals to be done before the close of business this month. The 38-yearold won’t be sanctioning the sale of striker Alfredo Morelos, however, after the Colombian again attracted interest from Ligue 1.

Rangers rebuffed a £3.75m bid from Bordeaux for Morelos a fortnight ago and the 22-year-old has since received his first international call-up for the matches with Venezuela and Argentina.

Gerrard is determined to retain the services of Morelos and hopes he will soon sign on the dotted line to commit his future to Rangers.

He said: “He’s a very confident player anyway, he always believes he can deliver so it was no surprise for me to see him get a call up.

“Yes, there has been progress with regards a new contract, we’ll have to wait and see how that pan out.

“But he is in talks, it’s on-going. We’re hoping there is some good news to report soon.”
