Frisby hoping to get off to a flier after jetting into Glasgow

-

RELEASED by the Queensland Reds, Nick Frisby was on the golf course unsure of where his rugby career was headed when the call came from Dave Rennie inviting him to join Glasgow Warriors last month.

Since his recruitment on a two-year deal was confirmed the day after it was announced that former Scotland captain Henry Pyrgos was heading from Glasgow to Edinburgh, it was clear that the head coach saw the Wallaby as cover for his other two international scrumhalves, George Horne and Ali Price during the autumn Test and Six Nations windows.

However, with Price having had a groin problem in the run-in to the season, the 25-year-old, who spent part of last season in Bordeaux after falling out of favour at the Reds, looks set to get an early opportunity to make a mark and, having scored a debut try against Harlequins, he has shown he is keen to seize it.

“I was in limbo there while I was on holidays and not playing any footy,” he admitted.

“Having had the chance to play in France I was keen to come back over this way and play some footy over here so I guess in a way it is an opportunity to kick start, hopefully, a long career over here and in Glasgow.”

With Price and Horne contending for Scotland places, Frisby, whose five Wallaby caps were all won off the bench, knows how tough it will be to get starts at Scotstoun, but claims that was part of the attraction of the move. “It was a very good challenge obviously having a couple of high-class half-backs here already,” he said.

“It’s a nice opportunity to challenge myself and further my experience in Europe and the UK having played in the French competition and now with the chance to play in this competition.

“The biggest thing was just speaking to Dave on the phone having seen how he coached his Chiefs side and he seemed to think that I would fit in.”
