Arfield fearless for showdown at Parkhead

-

SCOTT ARFIELD insists Rangers will head to Parkhead with no fear after their European heroics in Russia.

Steven Gerrard’s side clinched a place in the Europa League group stages with a 1-1 draw against Ufa last night.

It was a remarkable defensive showing from the Light Blues as they recovered from the red cards to Alfredo Morelos and Jon Flanagan and stood firm to progress through a fourth qualifying tie this term.

Rangers will now turn their attentions to the first Old Firm showdown of the campaign on Sunday as they look to keep the momentum going under boss Gerrard.

Arfield said: “I sensed at Burnley in my first season there after promotion that there was an expectation there.

“I sensed that again on the first day of pre-season with Rangers in the summer.

“I felt we could be successful. You have someone of the manager’s stature coming in, his backroom staff and all the signings. I fully expected it to gather momentum quickly.

“We know we have a massive game to look forward to on Sunday. It’s one of the most iconic games in world football.

“We don’t go there fearing anyone, we will go into Parkhead on Sunday bouncing.”

Rangers had one foot in the group stages after just 10 minutes when Ovie Ejaria fired them into the lead in Ufa.

But the Light Blues had to dig deep as they withstood heavy spells of pressure.

Arfield said: “I think a team was born out there tonight. It was a proper match. The expectation with what we have in the dressing room was that we fully expected to score tonight.”
