Forget 100 club, Griff is gunning for Old Firm

-

CELTIC striker Leigh Griffiths wrote his name into the history books last night and then immediately set his sights on Rangers on Sunday.

Griffiths has applauded Steven Gerrard’s Rangers who accompany Celtic into the Europa League group stages but warned that the Ibrox side had not faced “a team like us yet.”

Speaking after netting his 100th goal for the club, Griffiths said: “We’ve nothing to prove on Sunday. The fans and everybody else knows how well we can play.

“Yeah, we’ve had a sticky patch and lost a couple of games but that’s two clean sheets on the bounce now so we need to move forward. There’s a big game coming on Sunday and that’s when big players turn up.

“Listen, they’ve been playing well. Their new manager has come in and got them playing well but it’s a different kettle of fish when he comes up against us.

“He’s not come up against a team like us yet and hopefully we’ll do our talking on the pitch on Sunday.

“It doesn’t feel any different this tie – it’s a derby at the end of the day and every single player is going to be up for it.”

Meanwhile, Griffiths last night revealed he vomited at half-time last night as he fought off a viral infection.

Griffiths is keen to tie up a long-term contract at Celtic and believes if he can secure his future at the club that he can get to 150.

“I’ve been ill all day,” said Griffiths. “I was sick at halftime and I said to the manager and the doctor that I probably only had 10 or 15 minutes left in me.

“If I can get this new contract over the line then who knows?

“If I can set my next target for 150 then that would be great.”
