City chief hits out at Rangers

RANGERS staff have been accused of an “orchestrat­ed campaign” against Glasgow’s council leader over fan zone plans.

Susan Aitken said footballin­g bias claims made on social media were “reprehensi­ble”.

MUSICIANS from Glasgow’s Orchestral Society are fine tuning their training as the countdown gets under way for Scotland’s biggest mass participat­ion race.

Some 30,000 runners are expected to take part in the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run festival, which is take placing in the last week of September.

The 70-strong amateur orchestra, who rehearse every Monday in Maryhill will be taking part in the 10k and half marathon to celebrate the orchestra’s 150th birthday in 2020.

Liz Sime, President of Glasgow Orchestral Society, said: “With this being our 150th year, we decided that we wanted to do something really big to try and raise funds to have a huge celebratio­n for reaching such a milestone.

Both the 10k and half marathon events start in George Square and from there participan­ts are taken on a tour of the city past a selection of Glasgow’s finest venues and buildings, as well as crossing over the River Clyde before runners head back for their grandstand finish on Glasgow Green.

Super Saturday kicks off the weekend action with a family Mile, Toddler Dash and Junior Run.
