United back to winning ways as Watford keep up 100 per cent record

-

ROMELU Lukaku’s double eased the pressure on Jose Mourinho as Manchester United won 2-0 at Burnley.

Mourinho had shown defiance after back-toback Premier League defeats and his players responded at Turf Moor, despite the second-half dismissal of Marcus Rashford.

Lukaku struck in the 27th and 44th minutes before Paul Pogba’s penalty midway through the second period, after Rashford had been fouled by Aaron Lennon, was saved by Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Rashford – who later apologised, saying “emotions got the better of me” was shown a straight red card for leaning into Phil Bardsley with his head in the 71st minute, but United saw the game out and moved up to 10th in the table.

Watford extended their 100 per cent start to the season with a 2-1 win versus Tottenham, who were also chasing their fourth straight victory.

Craig Cathcart headed Watford’s 76th-minute home winner to keep his side level with Liverpool and Chelsea on maximum points at the top of the table. Tottenham had taken the lead courtesy of Abdoulaye Doucoure’s own goal eight minutes into the second half, but the Hornets hit back.

Skipper Troy Deeney hauled them level and Cathcart then powered home Holebas’ corner to ensure Watford made their best start to a Premier League season.

Arsenal clinched their first away win of the season as they edged a five-goal thriller at Cardiff to climb up to ninth in the table. Alexandre Lacazette fired an 81st-minute winner for Unai Emery’s side after Cardiff had twice hit back.

Shkodran Mustafi headed the Gunners into an early lead before Victor Camarasa notched his first Cardiff goal on the stroke of half-time.

Arsenal regained the lead through PierreEmerick Aubameyang’s curling effort and although Cardiff conjured another leveller through Danny Ward’s thumping header, Lacazette crashed home a winner at the near post.
