West Ham man given the Snod for Scotland

-

SCOTLAND have called up Robert Snodgrass after Matt Phillips pulled out of the squad through injury, the Scottish Football Association has confirmed.

Scotland boss Alex McLeish has called on West Ham midfielder Snodgrass for the friendly against Belgium on Friday and their UEFA Nations League opener against Albania three days later.

Snodgrass won the last of his 25 caps last year and has not yet played for his country under McLeish, who last week warned that the former Livingston man’s international future was and that of Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur was in jeopardy if they did not make themselves available for every game.

He said: I had a chat with Snoddy and he was another one who wanted to wait and see before he really committed himself to come back in.

“Those were the conversations I had with them [Snodgrass and McArthur] leading into the summer. At the moment, it is still the same. Snoddy is back in the West Ham team, he is back in their plans.

“Let us see how the next month goes. It can change month to month, the squad. But that is the situation with the older players.

“I think you understand when there are personal reasons as well. Snoddy isn’t far away. I said I would look at them in the next month. He has left the door open as well.”

Snodgrass has featured in all four of the Hammers’ Premier League games so far this season. West Brom forward Phillips pulled out of the squad after playing for the Baggies in the 2-1 win over Stoke in the Championship on Saturday.
