PUPILS were evacuated after a Glasgow school was hit by a bomb threat.

A POLICE investigation has been launched after a bomb hoax at a Glasgow high school led to pupils being evacuated.

Emergency services were sent to Rosshall Academy in Crookston yesterday morning after receiving a call shortly after 8am yesterday about a suspect package.

They quickly began searching the school which was cordoned off.

Several fire crew and police vehicles were in attendance, including force dogs.

Worried parents of children were told the school had been evacuated and that they had to pick up their children.

A short statement from the school on Twitter just after 9am said: “Rosshall Academy has had to be evacuated. Parents and carers have been contacted by text. We will update later today.”

The text read: “Rosshall Acad. Unfortunately we have had to evacuate the school. Please make arrangements to have your child collected or for them to go home.”

Some witnesses at the scene reported seeing bomb disposal units arriving.

Parents took to social media to ask the school for more information with some reporting that their children said there had been a bomb threat.

Crookston Road was closed to all traffic between Paisley Road West and the school due to the incident.

Road users had been advised to consider alternate routes where possible.

Rosshall Academy later confirmed on Twitter that the incident was over by 10.30am.

A statement said: “Incident is now over – all pupils and staff safe. School is closed for the rest of the day and all should report to school as normal tomorrow morning.”

Glasgow City Council also sought to assure parents and residents that the situation was under control with a similar tweet.

The closed roads were also fully reopened at around 10.40am.

A Police Scotland spokesman said nearby residents were not evacuated, but added: “As a precautionary measure, Rosshall Academy, Crookston Road, Glasgow was searched and nothing suspicious was found.

“The incident is being treated as malicious and will be fully investigated as such.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman also said: “We were called at 8.29am on Monday, September 3 to assist emergency service partners at Rosshall Academy, Crookston.”
