Stars gearing up to perform at Glasgow Americana Festival

- BY CAROLINE WILSON

GLASGOW’S Americana country music festival is set to take over the city.

The event, which was launched in 2006, will feature performances from the likes of Yola Carter and Emily Barker to Red Pine Timber Co. and Martha L. Healy.

Singer-songwriter Anthony D’Amato says he can’t wait to cross the pond and perform in a city with a great love of country.

He told the Evening Times: “The Glasgow Americana Festival is put together by Kevin Morris, who books fantastic shows in Glasgow year-round.

“I feel very grateful that there are folks like him out there who support and promote independent music.

“Glasgow has quickly become one of my favourite cities to play anywhere in the world.

“The audiences are so appreciative and passionate and focused. I’ve had amazing experiences in Glasgow supporting folks like Ricky Ross, Gretchen Peters and Israel Nash, but this will be my first headline show in the city and that’s a really special milestone for me.”

D’Amato – who will be performing solo acoustic – promises fans an intimate set with just him, his guitar and some harmonicas.

He said: “My favourite artists are storytellers, the kind of people who can draw you in and lead you through the full range of human emotion in 90 minutes, and I aspire to that every time I get on stage.

“It’s so easy to stay at home and sit in front of a screen and let everything come to you these days, so I work really hard to put on a show that connects on the kind of human level you can only experience in person.”

One of D’Amato’s highlights over the past year was when he hit the road with Deacon Blue’s Ricky Ross.

D’Amato said: “I met Ricky during my first visit to Glasgow several years ago when he had me as a guest on his BBC show, and it’s been such an honour to have a songwriter like him be so kind and generous with his support.”

Glasgow Americana Festival will take place between October 3-7. For more information, go to glasgowamericana.com. Anthony D’Amato will be performing at The Glad Café alongside Mabel & Huck on Friday, October 5. Doors open at 7.30pm, tickets are £13.
