Missions in Possil as Cami and Co try to keep play-off dream alive

-

GLASGOW boss Cami Brown says his side face four “mini missions” in their race to make the league championship play-offs.

The Tigers face Ipswich tomorrow and Edinburgh next Tuesday at their Ashfield track in Possilpark – and can’t afford to lose either meeting against their fellow play-off challengers if they want a realistic chance of being in the mix for the title.

That’s ahead of away trips to Ipswich and Lakeside at the end of next week, from which they’ll likely need points.

Brown says his side are up for the challenge – buoyed by Craig Cook’s win in the Championship Riders’ Individual on Sunday and their biggest win of the season on Friday against Newcastle.

He said: “The Newcastle meeting was just one part of five things we need to do. We have four mini missions coming up, the first one is tomorrow, which will be a bigger test against Ipswich.

“They come with a very good guest in Scott Nicholls, but they’ve also got guys like Mark Riss and Nico Covatti, so we need to be on our guard.

“We need to ride as well as we did on Friday again tomorrow, and if we can do that, we move on to next Tuesday for the big one.

“We’re not going to talk about that one until we get this one out of the way. If we can get through the Ipswich match and get the result we want, we’ll build for the Edinburgh match.

“We’ll take them one match at a time. I know it’s a cliche, but it’s the right way to do it when you reach this stage of the season – you can’t look too far ahead.

“The boys are really motivated. They know there’s a big task ahead but they all believe they can do it.

“We’ve got an outstanding No 1 in Craig Cook – he can win races against anyone, anywhere – and there’s nobody he’s worried racing against, he just goes about his business, which is tremendous.”
