A BIG-HEARTED Glasgow taxi driver has offered to provide free transport for cancer patients.
William McCartney, from Easterhouse, is offering his time to kids or adults who are struggling to get to their next chemotherapy or radiotherapy appointments.
The 57-year-old posted the generous offer on Facebook and received an enormous amount of feedback.
More than 36,000 people have liked the post and another 63,000 people have shared it.
So far, William has agreed to take a little girl from Drumchapel with brain cancer once a week to hospital.
Speaking to the Evening Times, William said: “What I’m offering is one-toone help with my time and expense to one or two people who are kids or adults with no friends or family and I’m doing it as much for me as them – it gives me satisfaction if I can help someone with cancer.
“I’ve had cancer and it’s a lonely place if you have no one to support you. All the big taxi companies in the UK get lucrative hospital contracts, it would be nice to give something back.
“I’m not in a taxi company – I only pick up off the streets of Glasgow so I don’t get any contract work.
“Glasgow people are salt of the earth and would give you their last without any hesitation whatsoever.”
The Glasgow cabbie is now encouraging others to follow his lead and donate their time and services to people who need it most.
