Loss of arts hub would be a ‘devastating blow’ for culture in city

-

A SCOTTISH film festival has been left ‘feeling adrift’ over the continued closure of Glasgow’s CCA.

Take One Action Film Festivals said the loss of the arts hub would be a devastating blow for culture in the city in a statement released following news that the CCA is on ‘knife-edge’.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, the Glasgow School of Art fire cordon has put the centre in “grave danger of closing”.

The venue is still within the safety cordon to the west of the Mackintosh building, which is not yet deemed safe.

Take One Action Film Festivals – along with the wider community CCA supports and especially its tenants – were stunned by the recent news of the prolonged closure of the city’s flagship cultural venue.

Executive director Tamara Van Strijthem said: “Our thoughts are with the CCA staff and all their tenants.

“This is such a key hub for the arts community in Glasgow and beyond, and this continued uncertainty about their ability to reopen is a devastating blow for culture in the city, as well as the many communities CCA brings together through its wider activities. This is obviously very disruptive for our festival.”

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: “The council has not, at any time, given a reoccupation date for this area.”
