Harris hyped up for Tigers’ derby D-day

CHRIS Harris admits everything is on the line for speedway’s Scottish clubs in their biggest derby for several seasons.

Glasgow and Edinburgh will meet at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on Tuesday bidding to end each other’s league title hopes.

Both sides are chasing the same spot in the Championship’s end-of-season play-offs.

If the Monarchs take something from the match, it puts them in the driving seat – but the Tigers can take one step closer with a win before heading south for two final fixtures.

The home team will be led by Craig Cook, a former Armadale hero, who’s unbeaten in his last 19 races for his new team – while Richie Worrall returns to Ashfield in Monarchs colours just two months after his departure from Glasgow.

It’s the most important clash since the teams faced each other in two cup finals in 2015 – and captain Harris says pride and glory are at stake on derby D-day.

“It’s the biggest meeting of the season – no doubt,” said the Englishman, who helped his side to a crucial late comeback against Ipswich on Tuesday.

“If we can beat Edinburgh we might have one foot in the playoffs. It’s going to be so tight getting into the top four and we all know what’s at stake – especially with it being a local derby as well, there’s that extra tension.

“I always like derbies and I’ve done plenty down south, but they are passionate up here and the derby means a lot for the clubs to get the bragging rights.

“We’ve got a point to prove given what they did to us at their place.”
