Dundee appeal Miller’s red card at Ibrox

-

DUNDEE have appealed Kenny Miller’s red card against Rangers – but one former top referee thinks they have no chance of winning.

Under-pressure Dens Park boss Neil McCann insisted in the aftermath of Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Ibrox that they would contest Kevin Clancy’s decision and the club confirmed yesterday they had followed through on that vow.

Miller was dismissed in the 79th-minute for a lunging challenge on Rangers left-back Borna Barisic. McCann said: “I thought the decision was a poor one.”

The Dark Blues will find out tomorrow if they have been successful in clearing Miller to face old club Hibs this weekend.

A statement read: “The club can confirm we have submitted an appeal to the SFA for the red card given to Kenny Miller.”

However, former ref Dermot Gallagher insists Clancy got the decision spot on.

The ex-FIFA and English Premier League whistler told Sky Sports: “It’s the distance he comes. He comes such a long way and he’s not got the ball.

“It’s straight-legged and that’s what the referee’s seen and that’s why he’s sent him off.

“He’s come such a long way and he’s nowhere near the ball. Is he out of control? Absolutely.”

Meanwhile, Livingston boss Gary Holt has heaped praise on his maligned squad after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Hamilton Accies marked a third straight victory for the Lions since Holt took charge in the wake of Miller’s departure.

Holt said: “We’ve got a stigma about the way we play but we’ve got some quality players, and the goals we’ve seen in the last few weeks are testament to that.”
