McCann: Beat Hibs and kick start season

-

NEIL McCann has urged Dundee to ‘get their season started’ with a badly-needed victory over Hibs this weekend.

The Dark Blues are rock bottom of the Premiership with no points after five straight defeats so far this term.

Saturday’s 4-0 hammering from Rangers at Ibrox heaped more pressure on the under-fire McCann, with many anticipating that time is running out for the Dens Park boss.

However, the former Scotland winger was encouraged by his players’ fighting spirit against Rangers.

And he remains optimistic a first win of the campaign at home to Hibs on Saturday could kick-start a revival.

He said: “The positives are that they didn’t give up, they still kept working hard. There were no heads went down, feeling sorry for themselves.

“Yes, it was extremely difficult, but I didn’t see them chuck it.

“There are elements of our game you can see are there. But we need to break that flow and get ourselves in front and get our first win.

“And that will break this chain of events.”

He added to DeeTV: “There’s an element of ‘let’s go out and play Hibs and look to get our season started with a win’.”

But David Gray insists Hibernian proved their doubters wrong with Saturday’s 3-2 win over Kilmarnock.

The Easter Road outfit went into the game without a victory in the league since the opening-day success against Motherwell, and on the back of a shock defeat to Livingston.

Gray, said: “We knew we were under a bit of pressure to put in a performance, and I think we showed great character. We can only take great confidence.”
