- BY STACEY MULLEN

DETECTIVES have launched an attempted murder inquiry after a man was shot in Glasgow’s East End in a targeted hit.

The 38-year-old remains seriously ill after the shooting in Tollcross.

MASKED gunmen carried out a targeted hit on a man at his home in Glasgow’s East End – shooting him in the head.

Murder detectives are now investigating the shooting which happened at around 11pm on Tuesday night.

Officers, who are treating the incident as attempted murder, said that two masked men got out of a black car and entered a property in Cuthelton Terrace, in Lilybank, where they shot a 38-year-old man in the head.

He was then taken to hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

Medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.

Yesterday morning, the force sealed off the residential street, which sits in the Lilybank area between Tollcross and Parkhead as they began their probe into the shooting.

Officers also spoke to residents living on the street, many of whom are elderly, and analysed CCTV in the area in a bid to identify the gunmen.

The force also said that they dealt with a road crash 20 minutes after the shooting.

The Evening Times understands that a car crashed in Selby Gardens, Mount Vernon, and a man was rushed to hospital.

The force stressed that there is nothing to indicate that this incident is connected to the attempted murder but officers are following all lines of inquiry.

Detective Inspector Gillian Faulds said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing and specialist officers and forensics teams are currently at the scene. We will, of course, continue to carry out door-todoor enquiries and are reviewing CCTV footage for any information which could assist us.

“There is no clear motive for this attack as yet – though we do believe the victim was the intended target. I would appeal to anyone who has any information regarding this incident to contact us.

“An incident such as this is bound to cause concern among local residents but I would like to assure them that there are additional patrols in the area.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Govan police station via 101, quoting incident number 4200 of September 18, 2018.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
