Chrissy’s ready to be Hall of fame after stuttering start in top flight

- BY JIM O’DONNELL

PETERSHILL hitman Chrissy Hall getting off the mark by netting his first goal of the season in a 2-1 victory over Troon last weekend could spell bad news for Cambuslang Rangers tomorrow.

The 28-year-old lavishly celebrated and now he’s hoping to experience another by getting the nod when New Petershill Park provides the backdrop to the Premiership head to head between the top two teams in last season’s Super First Division.

The famous old Springburn club came up as champions, helped no end by top scorer Hall, however he like his club has struggled to make his mark among the top-flight elite.

He insisted: “Getting that particular monkey off my back is a great relief and now my sights are set no further than just playing two games in a row.

“That’s not happened this season for various reasons… a niggling back injury for one as well as a couple of self-inflicted absences caused by my heading out to Ibiza for the stag parties of close friends.

“I returned from my last trip abroad just a couple of days before our recent home game against Largs Thistle but my chances of a jersey, already slim at best because I hadn’t trained, were blown out of the water by Jamie McLennan scoring all four goals in the previous week’s 4-3 defeat of Renfrew.

“He was never going to be cast aside after that performance and it seems to be that Jamie’s name appears on the scoresheet every time I’m posted missing because he also helped himself to a hat trick when I sat out our early season Sectional League Cup contest against Rob Roy.

“Not surprisingly I never got so much as a look-in against Largs but our 4-1 defeat opened the door for my return and being able to put in a couple of hard training shifts did my chances of a starting jersey against Troon the power of good.

“Scoring our first goal provided a confidence boost and I might have bagged a double but for tiring badly in the second half and having to be substituted before our late penalty kick which I would have taken if I’d been on the pitch.

“Thankfully young Scott Cameron made a good job of sticking the ball away and my hope now is I’ve done enough to keep my place for facing Cambuslang.”
