Five-star Gers delight Gerrard

RANGERS SWAT ASIDE SAINTS IN IBROX TROUNCING TO FIRE LIGHT BLUES INTO SECOND PLACE

-

TOMMY WRIGHT admits ruthless Rangers showed St Johnstone how it was done in the final third as they earned a 5-1 victory at Ibrox.

The Light Blues ran out comfortable winners on Sunday thanks to goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos, Scott Arfield, Kyle Lafferty and Daniel Candeias.

St Johnstone could have opened the scoring through David Wotherspoon inside the first few minutes and created a couple of chances before Blair Alston scored from the spot late on.

And boss Wright (below) was frustrated his side couldn’t make the most of their opportunities.

He said: “We made it tough for ourselves. I thought Rangers played really well but a lot of the goals we could have defended better.

“Strangely, we’ve been here before when we created less chances and won. They were clinical this time but we could have helped ourselves.

“The first goal was always going to be important but it was a cheap goal. It’s a great free-kick but the build-up is cheap from us.

“We had a great chance with David Wotherspoon before they scored the first, we had another at 2-0 but we miss it, they go up the field to make it 3-0 and that kills it off.

“To be fair to my players they kept going so I’ve got to give them credit but at times we left ourselves exposed and too open. In the end we got what we deserved.

“Yeah, they were ruthless but from my point of view we didn’t help ourselves. Too many times we let players go inside the box and made it easy for them.”
